Welcome to JuliesBackyard.com

Our backyard consists of approximately eighteen acres, eight of which my husband mows.  We have numerous flower gardens which between myself and my father, who retired several years ago,  I try to maintain. We have an apple orchard that my husband carefully sprays and the produce in the fall is quite spectacular.

Several years ago we hired a man to dig a pond for us.  My husband had always wanted one but I was afraid that it would draw bugs to it.  Boy was I wrong. We do have bugs but we also have many different kinds of birds and bats that keep the population down to a minimum.  Also we stocked the pond and the fish enjoy the dragonflies and water beetles.

I have a chicken coop that I got for my birthday a few years back and I have twenty or so chickens that produce enough eggs to supply family and friends.  Also, I have a few loyal customers who pick up every week and that helps pay for the layer pellets.

We have a small shed that replaced the huge barn that we had buried by the same man that dug the pond. There is also a swimming pool that we had put in twenty four years ago and have never regretted.  There is a small vegetable garden and grapes that I take care of and truly enjoy the fruits of the labor.  We have a maze in the back of the property that is fun.  Nothing is manicured, but cut out of wild roses and tall grass and trees.  We take the two dogs out there for walks almost everyday.  Two gazeboes, one at the front of the property and the other at the pond really make the yard beautiful. Well, that's an overview of the yard and over the next few months I will try to tell some funny stories that have happened over the thirty years that we have lived on the property.  Trust me when I say that the property has changed over the years dramatically. My plan is to have a story once a week.  I hope you find them interesting.
